Whilst the iPod wasn’t the first portable music player on the market, it certainly had the most impact. Although in 2001, when the first generation of iPod was released, MP3 players with more features and more storage existed, the Ipod still managed to attract a large customer base due to it’s simplistic, easy to use, nature. The first generation’s minimalistic design, simplicity and polish were to become synonymous with Apple products for years to come. Although it didn’t come equipped with a touch screen or even a colour screen for the matter, the first generation of iPod was to change the way that people listened to music forever.
In the 16 years the iPod has been produced, it’s sold over 390 million units; that’s more units sold than there are people in the US! Due to it’s popularity, the iPod is still being made today and is currently in its sixth generation; with the iPod touch taking flagship status. Like many other Apple Products, the iPod evolved with time. The iPod saw many different iterations, such as the compact Nano and Shuffle, the Classic and the Touch. The shuffle was the most basic in the range and was used simply as basic music player. However, the iPod Touch was brought closer in line with the iPhone, being able to fully utilize apps and, later in it’s life, featuring a camera.
The most recent iteration of iPod Touch comes with all the up to date Apple specification you would expect. With Apple’s A8 chip and 8MP camera, the iPod is certainly no slouch. Coming in either 32GB or 128GB, it leaves plenty of room for music and media. Due to the powerful A8 chip the most recent iPod Touch easily handles many of the graphically intensive games available on the App store. Due to iPhone quickly becoming a single media device, leaving no need for a separate iPod, the iPhone overtook sales of the iPod midway through 2010.
