Perhaps the most accessible in the range, the iPhone 5C 16GB was released in 2013 and stood as the most popular memory iteration. This was undoubtedly because it was cost effective and extremely useable. The baby brother of the 5S came with many similar features, packed into an all in one, bright and luminous, polycarbonate unibody. It was made the successor to the iPhone 5, providing a middle ground between the former and the iPhone 5S. Both the iPhone 5 and 5S had impressive primary sales figures. Within the first 3 days of launch, over nine million units were sold which, once again meant Apple had broken the record for first weekend smartphone sales.

Just like the iPhone 5 and 5S, the iPhone 5C sported a 4-inch Retina display screen. Although it was smaller than other smartphones at a similar price point, the 5C screen was certainly of supreme quality. Both the 5S and 5C used a top-quality ISP panel that rendered colours full, gave beautiful contrast and a high peak brightness. The resolution of the 5C was 1136 x 640 and had 326 pixels per inches. All these factors combined resulted in a clear and sharp display. The iPhone 5C also contains an improved LTE radio which meant it had support from more bands in more areas. Facetime also became more stable because of this, meaning Facetiming without a Wi-fi connection was entirely possible when out an about.

A welcomed companion of the iPhone 5C was iOS7, which was released on the same day. This was one of the biggest software changes since the iPhone’s release and completely redesigned the operating system. As well as adding new features and optimising the iPhone, iOS7’s new design was in keeping with the look and feel of the fun and vibrant 5C. Many App icons were completely overhauled, In favour more welcoming and colourful App design. iO7 itself added many new innovative and useful elements, such as Airdrop. Airdrop was an ad-hoc Wi-Fi sharing platform that allowed file sharing across all Apple devices, post iPhone 5. This meant that photos or documents could be shared quickly and easily. IOS7 also introduced the control centre, which could be accessed by swiping up and showed commonly used controls or apps; extremely useful.
