The Ten Bestselling PS3 Games Ever

It’s over ten years since the release of the legendary PlayStation 3, in 2006. It was part of the seventh generation of video game consoles, competing against Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo’s Wii. The PS3 was hugely successful, making its name as the seventh best-selling video game console of all time.

We know the PS3 was brilliant. But what were the best PS3 games? Read on to find out the ten bestselling PlayStation 3 games. There are some real classics. Which one did you enjoy most?

NO. 10 – Battlefield 3

Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 3 is a real crowd favourite amongst hardcore first-person shooter fans. Developed by DICE, the game was the 12th instalment in the Battlefield Series, contrary to its name. Players were positioned as US Marines, with single player missions and multiplayer action across the globe in places like France, New York, and the Middle-East. Globally the game sold 7.22 million units.

NO. 9 – FIFA 13

The omnipresent EA Sports’ video game series, FIFA. The 2013 version, FIFA 13, was released to much success. The game welcomed new features such as Attacking Intelligence, Tactical Free Kicks, expansion of the player impact engine. Importantly and what FIFA is well liked for is its authenticity, boasting over 500 officially licensed clubs and over 15,000 players. The game sold 8.06 million units.

NO. 8 – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

One of Infinity Ward’s greatest creations, Call of Duty 4. The game was hugely successful across all gaming formats, particularly on PS3. The game itself was set in 2011, with users playing as a US Marine and a British S.A.S soldier. CoD 4 was wildly popular due to its online multiplayer mode, and since then the Call of Duty franchise has been renowned for its action-packed multiplayer modes. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold 10.13 million units.

NO. 7 – Grand Theft Auto IV

The seventh best selling PS3 game ever was Rockstar Games’ GTA IV. As always, the game packs endless fun. From doing car chase missions or simply just causing anarchy, this GTA was exhilarating. The game sold 10.55 million units.

NO. 6 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Suitably, the sixth Call of Duty game comes in as the sixth bestselling PS3 game ever. As with its predecessor, the game was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. The story followed Captain Soap MacTavish as they hunt down the leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party, Vladimir Makarov. The game was of course an instant hit, and sold 10.61 million copies.

NO. 5 – Gran Turismo 5

The fifth instalment in the widely adored Gran Turismo franchise was always going to be a hit, after a much anticipated wait. GT5 was the first GT to feature online racing with support of up to 16 racers. With over a thousands cars and 71 tracks to choose from, it was hugely popular selling 10.74 million units.

NO. 4 – Call of Duty: Black Ops

Developed by Treyarch and published by Activision, CoD Black Ops was released in 2010 to much success. The game was set in the height of the Cold War, with gamers involved in the Vietnam War and assassination of Fidel Castro. The game sold 12.7 million copies.

NO. 3 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

This Call of Duty was the third of the Modern Warfare series, which is the best-selling action series of all time. The gaming entertainment platform Steam gives Modern Warfare 3 a 9/10 rating – impressive stuff. The game sold 13.35 million units.

NO. 2 – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

ANOTHER Call of Duty?! Yes, they were that popular. The release of this CoD was greatly anticipated, proven with its first day sales. In the first 24 hours, Black Ops 2 sales hit $500 million . It was at this time where CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, said that Call of Duty’s franchise sales exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter ad Star Wars. The game sold 13.8 million units.

NO. 1 – Grand Theft Auto V

None other than Rockstar Games’ GTA V tops the best-selling PS3 games of all time. It’s crazy to know that the game was developed by Rockstar North, which is based in Edinburgh. It must be considered one of Scotland’s proudest exports. Released in September 2013 the game was critically acclaimed, achieving a Metascore of 97% on Metacritic . By this point the GTA series had picked up so much momentum that it had no room to slip up. GTA V certainly didn’t, selling a whopping 20.64 million copies worldwide.
